My Take: Finally found some Acura lease rates! I still think March was the best time to lease a TL. Hindsight is 20/20 after all, so telling you now doesn’t serve any purpos, except to make you feel bad. However, there is $1000 in factory cash available to lessees. So negotiate a low sale price then tack on the factory cash. Remember dealer and factory incentives are TWO different things from two different sources. The residual stinks on the TL right now, but the MF is now too bad. As posted earlier, the 2009 TL is arriving in the fall. So there could be a fire-sale of the remaining 08 TLs. I remember back in 2003, I was shopping around for a car and stumbled upon the previous generation TL, they were deeply discounting (at least 5000 off MSRP) them because of the 2004 TL was coming. So expect more of the same this time around.

  1. interestingly enough the residual is so poor on the TL, that one could lease the g35x w/prem + nav (edmunds tmv is about $4k more on this g35 vs. the TL w/nav), and the monthly payments would be almost exactly the same! maybe the TL is ok to buy here but i wouldn’t lease is given the poor residual. thoughts?

  2. Hi D,
You are right, the TL is a slightly better buy, but selection is becoming very limited. For leasing, the G35x is definitely better. For buying, the G35x is actually not too bad. There is a load of incentives floating around for the G35. $2000 dealer cash, $1500 in loyalty rebates and special 1.9% financing for up to 60 months. (can’t be combined with some of the cash rebates though).
Add the fact that the TL doesn’t come in AWD and the G35x is clearly the winner here regardless of whether you buy or lease.

  3. cool, thanks. do you think invoice is a reasonable offer for a lease? the edmunds tmv is lower than invoice but i’m assuming thats due to the incentives available if one were to purchase the car. thanks!!!

  4. Yes, that’s usually a good idea. In the G35x’s case, I would even try shooting for two to three hundred under invoice, then stay firm on invoice price if under invoice doesn’t work. A lot of dealers will do a dealer trade at not cost to you, so don’t feel tied down if one dealer has a specific car you want.

  5. great, thanks!! i only have 2 dealerships in my area so that is problematic but i will do my very best.

  6. No problem. Start with those 2 dealers and spread go to the next town over if you have little success. It is sometimes worth the drive out a few hrs if you are looking at thousands in savings.
