2010-11 Volkswagen Lease Rates – October 2010

logo_vwUpdate: Routan, CC added.

My Take: VW is trying to unloaded the Passat since a NMS (New Midsized Sedan) that is being assembled in the US is probably going to be released for the 2011 model year. Pretty exciting stuff. The residuals suck, but the MF is awesome and there’s lease cash to offset the bad residual. This is a good combination should you decide to keep the Passat at lease-end.

  1. G,

What did you think of the new Jetta? I’ve heard mixed reviews….especially regarding the newly cheapened interior.

Also, if you get a chance post some more pics from the OC auto show! It’s killing me that the Tampa show isn’t until December….

P.S. Awesome site man….I check in almost every day.

    • Thanks Brad, goad you like the site. The OC Auto Show was great, I will post photos of it soon. I’ve been kind of busy trying to get lease rates out sooner so I haven’t gotten a chance to pick out my favorites of the show. I took almost 600 photos!
Anyway, the 2011 Jetta looks better in person, they did make noticeable changes to the interior, but much of is more about “simplification” rather than using cheap materials. They did away with some things, such as the center speaker/vent thing on the dashboard that you normally find on the older Jettas and your onboard computer display screen was reduced in size. There’s a bit more liberal use of that matte plastic (that you normally see on the dash) throughout the cabin, but that’s about it. The rest of things pretty much stayed the same. They also kept the media center found on all VWs, which is one of the best ones around. Would I lease one? Probably not in the 2.5 form. I would opt for a TDI, Wolfsburg edition or the GLI instead because those engines are more powerful and efficient. The exterior design may not be as aggressive as before, but I think VW was going for a more “upscale” look by mimicking the Audi A4, but in a smaller package. I didn’t get to test drive it, so I don’t know if any of its driving dynamics have changed, but based on other reports, it looks like it still handles like a Jetta should.

  2. G,

I was at my local dealership and picked up the rates for 2010 CC VR6 sport:
    36-month | 15k miles | residual 37% | .00046 base money factor

They added the acquisition fee to net capitalized cost and when I asked them to put it in upfront fees they told me that it will change the money factor to 0.00128 if they add it to upfront fees. Is it normal to add the acquisition fee to net cap cost?

    • yes. it is common practice to roll it in as part of the cap cost, but I have never heard of money factors changing because of it. That’s a new one.

  3. Looks like the Passat sedan is a good candidate for lease-to-own with an APR of 0.264% for the first 3 years. Here’s what I get:

    MSRP: $27945
Sale Price: $23269 (according to Zag.com)
    MF: 0.00011
    Residual: 44% for 12K mile/year 3-year lease
    $714.25 due at signing

    $308.72/month + tax

However, VW is offering 0% APR for 60 months on the Passat, so it would cost less to buy it up front. I just don’t want to come up with a down payment…

    • AJ,
If you don’t pay a down payment on a purchase, then you will probably have to pay a lump sum at lease-end. In this particular case, I would probably recommend the 0% for 60 months over the lease if you plan to keep the car. As a straight-up lease, it’s just an okay lease.
