08 Infiniti G35 Lease Rates for December 2008

My Take: For the remaining 2008 G35 models, please do yourself a favor and AVOID 24-month leases. The sweet spot is the 36-month lease for the G35 (same is the case with the G37). This car are still worth leasing, so be sure to look them over before you get too excited about the 2009 models. There isn’t a huge difference in performance between the G35 and G37, at least not noticeable enough to justify the extra cost. In my case, I went with the G37 because I wanted a coupe. If you need a sedan, give the 2008 G35 a chance. I’m willing to bet that these rates won’t stick around past December. Infiniti’s G lineup is by far the best bang for the buck in the entry-level luxury department. The exterior is sleek and the interior is vastly improved from the previous generation G model. I will go as far as saying that the interior quality rivals, maybe even surpasses the BMW 3-series. In BMW speak, you get a car comparable to the 335i for the price of a 328i. Can’t beat that.

Something to note, the G35 actually does not require Premium gas, but the G37 does. If gas prices is factor in your car shopping decision, this should be taken into consideration. The G gulps gas, it does not sip, so the question is, do you want it to gulp premium or regular?

There is $1000 in dealer cash available and another $500 in loyalty cash. There is $3000 cash available for purchases only. 0% and 0.9% APR financing rates are available for up to 60 months.

October 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Infiniti G35/G37

My Take: Congrats to those who were able to get super cheap 24mo leases on the Gs. Why? because you can’t now! In response to the horrendous financial meltdown we are having here country-wide, it seems that captive banks are shying away from those short-term leasing and sticking with the 36mo and 48mo terms. I’ve picked out the G35 Journey, G35x and the G37 Journey for payment calculations. This doesn’t mean that they lease best, on the contrary, they have the worst residual/mf combo (with the G35x being the exception). The reason I’ve selected them is because they are the more “popular” models. Most people don’t opt for the base model, so no point calculating those. Besides, base models are harder to come by. You may also want to consider the 48 month lease because the residual doesn’t drop too much. The money factor does drop further and your payments are spread out by another 12 months, making your payments cheaper.

September 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Infiniti G35

My Take: Residual values took a nose-dive on the G35 this month, so Infiniti came to the rescue by dropping the MF enough to keep things practically the same on the 36-month lease. If you where hoping for a 24-month lease, you’ll be paying about $25 more per month now, that’s about $600 more compared to last month. This is still a fairly good deal folks, do not overlook this car if you are shopping for a luxury sedan.

Featured Question 1

I get good number of emails every week and I sometimes I find that some of the questions need to be shared with the community because they are just very good questions. I want to thank James for his question today because his question has inspired me to create a new segment of “featured questions” for the site. Many Thanks!

James: How is leasing a G37 sport bad right now?

G: The G37 is a worse lease than last month, but it isn’t a horrible lease overall. I will looking into the numbers in a bit.

James: It’s the SAME price as the IS 350 and the 135 and it’s $100 less a month.

G: I wouldn’t consider it fair to compare the IS350 with the G37 since we are talking about a coupe and a sedan. Those shopping for a coupe certainly should pick the G37 over the 135i, while those shopping for a sedan should consider the G35 if the IS350 is not to their liking.

James: 71% for 10k miles, .00179 M, 2300 down with your Excel lease sheet it comes to $400.83 a month with 6.5% taxes.

G: I’m not sure how you came out with those numbers since a MSRP and Cap Cost was not define. But lets take my August numbers and use them as an example.

MSRP 40215
Sale Price 36856

August Numbers
G37 Sport
24 Month – Residual 71% of MSRP – .00190 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 61% of MSRP – .00216 Base Rate

September Numbers
G37 Sport
24 Month – Residual 68% of MSRP – .00179 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 61% of MSRP – .00215 Base Rate

Something to note, when you lease for 24 months, the residual is the same on the 10k and the 12k lease. Tarry apparently keeps getting that wrong on Infiniti leases, so make sure to note that. Regardless, let us assume the lease is for 15k miles.

August Monthly Payment is: $470 (plus inception and taxes)
September Monthly Payment is: $511 (plus inception and taxes)

Essentially, you are paying about $41 more from August to September. Now those who leased in July/August were paying about $30 more than the ones who leased in May/June. Essentially, the price went up $70+ per month since June. And I suspect it’s only going to go up until the 09 model is released.

James: That’s a great deal compared to the others above. Can you tell me why you didn’t suggest it?

G: I apologize if I gave the impression that the G37 is a horrible deal compared to other cars of the same price range. My main reason for not suggesting it is because I felt the lease wasn’t as good as it has been in the past few months. Factor in the fact that most people lease the Journey over the Sport and the payments jump that much more due to the lower residual value. The G37 is still one of the best values when it comes to coupes, so if you don’t mind paying a bit more than those who leased a few months ago, then I would suggest doing so before the 09 model rolls into showrooms.

Infiniti Special Financing for 2008 Models

If you missed out on Infiniti’s August lease rates and special financing, they have decided to extend their 0% and 0.9% financing on their 2008 EX, G, M and QX models.

Models offering 0% financing for 72 months include the EX and QX.

Models offering 0.9% financing for 60 months include G35 sedan, G37 coupe, M35 and M45.

Unfortunately, the 09 FX are not included in these special offers.

Leasing a 2008 model will become less and less attractive as we near the end of the year.  Since special financing is available, financing a purchase is the wiser financial decision. No MF will be low enough to beat 0% financing. It’s a interest free loan! If that isn’t good enough reason to consider a purchase, I don’t know what is.

Offer ends 9/30.

On a side note, GM extended their Employee Pricing offer until 9/30 as well. I know, who cares right? Well, you might want to if you are considering a roadster. GM may be pulling the plug on the Sky and Solstice because the platform in which they are built on is not “profitable”. For car nuts like myself, this is significant news because these two cars have a lot of “potential” in the aftermarket world. It may even be possible that these two cars’ resale value may go up in the near future because super fanboy (and girls) may want to buy them for modding.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Infiniti G35/G37

My Take: The official word is that the 08 G35 and G37 July rates will carry over to August, possibly into Sept 2. The 09 models will be arriving in September, so G’s in general are no longer in production. The days of getting a G35/G37 for under $400 with no cap reduction are not exactly over. However, selection is limited, so you may not get exactly what you want. Also, keep in mind that Infiniti has introducted 1.9% financing for up to 72 months as well (in addition to their 0.9% for 60 months), in case you wanted to go the purchasing route. Lets play with some numbers, shall we?

  • G35 Journey + Premium
  • MSRP $36015
  • Invoice $33046
  • Standard inception fees plus tax
  • Terms in BOLD

G35 24mo Payment: $445 at invoice, $572 at MSRP.
G35 36mo Payment: $429 at invoice, $515 at MSRP.

Not as cheap as it used to be. Using June’s numbers, this same car at invoice would have been $400 on a 24mo/15k lease. To say the July/August aren’t as good is an understatement, but I sense that things could get worse, so leasing the G now may be the best time. The good news is that the G35 can be had below invoice in most areas with fairly good competition. Assuming the following conditions, 36mo/12k, $500 under invoice, your monthly payments can get as good as $395 + tax. Drop to a 10k mile lease and you are looking at $376 + tax.

  • G37 Sport + Premium
  • MSRP $40215
  • Invoice $36856
  • Standard inception fees plus tax
  • Terms in BOLD

G37S 24mo Payment: $470 at invoice, $616 at MSRP.
G37S 36mo Payment: $474 at invoice, $793 at MSRP.

The funny thing about the G37 is that it leases better at 24 months. It was the same back in May/June too. I kind of regret not going for the 24mo lease over the 39mo lease come to think of it. Oh well, whatever. The G37 should be attainable at invoice in most areas with high competition. I haven’t heard of many people getting it for under invoice, but lets assume you can get it for $250 under invoice, and change the terms to 24mo/12k (10k is the same residual as 12k on a 24mo lease, so no point doing 10k). The payments should be around $439 + tax. Gone are the days where you could get a well equipped G37 for under $400. Of course, if you don’t mind getting the base model (like I did), you can still get it for $383 +tax per month at invoice for the 24mo/12k term…assuming you can find one.

You should be able to estimate the residuals for the G35/G37 journey and sport (+/- 1% or 2%) by looking at the other numbers posted.

My Take: As you probably noticed, the rates are exactly the same as in May. This offer is good until June 30th. After that, who knows. I can’t say the rates are THE BEST ones for the year. They could be better, then again, they could be worse. Expect a drop of 1-2% in the residual in July/August, but I’m pretty sure IFS will lower the MF to compensate for the loss in residual value. Whether that will yield better numbers than May/June, NO CLUE. Just know that the later you lease, the lower the residual. As you all know, if you can afford the gas prices, this car is FUN to own. I’m personally having a blast with it.  Although, $4.29+ per gallon really sucks…specially since this car has a 20 gallon tank. That’s $80 bucks to fill…for now. :S
