2012-13 Volkswagen Lease Rates – April 2012

2013 CC lease rates is out with $500 lease cash incentive. I personally recommend snagging a remaning 2012 because of the 0% financing for up to 72 months. The lease cash on the 2012 is much larger too ($1750) and the lease rate on it is still pretty good: 49% @ 0.00009 MF (Thanks for the info Mac).

Leasing is all about timing folks. You also have to do your homework and be flexible with what you want to drive. Leasing vs buying also plays a huge part in what makes sense. 0% financing for retail purchases is a no-brainer for most people, however, that also depends on the car you plan to get. If you plan to get married and start a family, buying a 2+2 coupe probably doesn’t make much sense, but leasing one does.

2012 Volkswagen Lease Rates – March 2012

VW just bumped the lease cash for the CC by $250 bucks AND is providing 0% financing for up to 72 month!!!! There is a drop in residual value, so I think the extra cash was introduced to offset that (keeping the lease exactly the same as Feb). The MF is already very low (0.00009 vs 0.00012 in Feb) so there was only so much they could go before having to drop some more money at it.

Either way you go (lease of finance), I think you’ll find that a good deal can be had on the CC this month.

2011-12 Volkswagen Lease Rates – September 2011

Of all 2012 VW lease rates this month. Only the Passat shows a lot of promise ($1000 lease cash available and a good MF/RV). The CC isn’t half bad either because of the $1250 lease cash that’s available, but it’s RV and MF aren’t as good. Some good deals to be head, however, I should warn you…More and more people are reporting that VW will charge “market value” on payoffs if you try to trade-in the car before lease end. With that in mind, you better be willing to keep the car for the entire term of your lease or you will end up paying a pretty penny trying to get off your lease.

2011-12 Volkswagen Lease Rates – August 2011

2011 lease rates seem to be have stayed the same as last month (You can look at last month’s post for those numbers). No surprise there. There is a chance that rates could change mid-month, so I will keep you posted if anything changes. The CC still have the $1250 lease cash, but I don’t see the $750 cash anymore. It may still be available in some areas, so be sure to inquire about it.

For those open to buying, VW Credit is offering 0% financing for up to 60 month on the CC Sport DSG. In my opinion, that is a far better deal than leasing, since there is no interest on that loan. As a matter of fact, many VW models have the special 0% financing for up to 60 months, so you may want to have your dealer crunch out some numbers to see if buying works out better for you.

2011-12 Volkswagen Lease Rates – July 2011

The numbers are in! I know I got a bunch of comments to answer. I haven’t had much time since work has been hectic and I have been trying to recover from a cold.

In any case, here are the numbers! In my opinion, the numbers look kind of mediocre. Take the CC for example, I like the MF drop but the sale price in my area got jacked up by about $1000 according to TrueCar. That pretty much blows up the deal for me. Unless a few thousands can be shaved on the sale price, last month’s 39-month was better (see calculations below). 2011 models suffered some residual value drops, but some of these models also got a big MF reduction. This should help keep payment low. There are a few exceptions, the Tiguan, Routan and Touareg MFs jumped a bit.

More lease rates for other brands to come! If you are waiting for a comment, please hang in there. I will reply to you as soon as all the numbers I have get posted.

Thanks!

2011-12 Volkswagen Lease Rates – June 2011

VW numbers are practically the same as May’s. VW Credit seems to be providing support on the 39-month leases right now, which I do not recommend for California residents (an other residents who pay yearly dmv registration fees). Our registration fees are high (my 3-year old G37 was $325 and my Sonata was $425), so it doesn’t make sense to pay it twice in one year. Plus VW has a $350 disposition fee, so you will get reamed for nearly $600 at lease end. That doesn’t include going over your miles, wear-n-tear and tires (should you need it). With that in mind, if a 39-month lease works for you, the CC is a very solid deal at the moment. See calculation below.

For those who are interested, I wanted to share with you my experience dealing with a couple of So Cal VW dealers. During the research process for my last lease, I contacted three dealerships in LA/OC (McKenna, Timmons, Garden Grove) and here are the results:

Garden Grove never called me back.

Timmons called me a few days after I submitted an inventory request (their online inventory was terrible out-of-date). They told me they would get me a “no-haggle” quote on a Tiguan S and never got back to me.

The most interaction I had was with McKenna, which is same dealer my wife leased her Jetta from (although they have since relocated from Norwalk to Cerritos). These are the numbers I got from Luis Romero, the ISM at McKenna (yes, I mention his name on purpose. Think of this as a “bad” review).

For a GTI with Sunroof, they wanted $437 with tax per month and $850 at signing. Jetta TDI, $428 with tax per month and $850 at signing. These were basically off MSRP, with the $850 paying for your inception fees (bank fee rolled into lease). I was a bit pissed off at him for quoting a returning customer MSRP, so I moved on. Fast forward 30 days and I get an email asking if I was still on the market. So I tell him how “insulted” I felt that he would quote a returning customer such as a crappy price and here is his response…

“I apologize if you feel that way, the cars you are looking for are in high demand, and they are specialty items, and we have higher bids on the cars specially the TDI, but ultimately we are a business, and as such we are entitled to try to make a buck or two. I hope you find what you are looking, and what is more important at the price you are looking for. If there is anything I can help you with, please feel free to contact me.”

Yes, they are a business, and they are entitled to make money. Just as much as I am entitled to feel slighted and take my business elsewhere. If I get a VW again, I will more than likely use a broker, tired of dealing with local VW dealers.

On the other hand, the Harbor Hyundai was a breeze to deal with. Online inventory was accurate and pricing was below TrueCar right off the bat. Customer service was outstanding for a non-luxury brand. Highly recommend them. If you would like the contact info of the sales guy I dealt with, drop me line below.

2011-12 Volkswagen Lease Rates – May 2011

Overall, VW lease rates have gotten worse. Luckily, VW Credit has introduced a couple of 39-month leases that help improve the numbers a little bit. Most of you regulars know I’m not a huge fan of 39-month leases, so I am not going to elaborate. Just know that it works for some but it doesn’t work all that well for others (specially for folks that pay yearly registration fees).

Check out my calculations below to get an idea of how the leases look this month…

2011-12 Volkswagen Lease Rates – April 2011

UPDATE! Added more VW numbers since I am currently looking at the Golf/Jetta TDIs and the 4DR GTIs. Wow TDIs are NOT lease-friendly AT ALL! I did a quick number crunch based on TrueCar sales data and it’s EXPENSIVE! Totally not recommended right now. The 4DR GTI with Sunroof isn’t too bad since it’s only a 1% drop in residual compared to the non-sunroof model. However, It’s within a $10 payment difference between a Premium A3. Ahhh decisions, decisions…

Numbers are pretty much the same as last month. A few 2012 models have arrived (CC, EOS) and their rates look pretty good. I don’t recommend leasing them yet because 2011 models are probably getting bigger discounts. Good enough to even offset the better 2012 model’s lease rates.
