logo_lexus My Take: The IS250 Auto and AWD are probably the two best leases in the IS line up. Money factor is low and residual is high. Not only does this make a good lease, it also makes it good enough to buy out at lease end. The ISF and IS350 are slightly less desireable due to the low residual values and high money factors. The IS250 Auto & AWD are a VERY good deal month actually. Invoice price (or maybe slightly lower) should be attainable in certain areas with solid competition. It certainly doesn’t carry the “LEASE ME NOW” tag that the MB C350 has had for the past few months, but it is certainly not too far off. Personally, I would still pony up for the IS350 over the IS250. The MF isn’t all that bad at .00110. The residual does suck a bit, but nothing a lower yearly mileage allowance can’t fix.

logo_lexus My Take: IS250 Automatics have a solid money factor this month. Money factor dropped from .00135 to a low .00040! Here’s the even better news! The residual stayed the same as March!! That is fantastic news for those that have been eagerly awaiting some lease support on the IS250s. If you are looking buy, there isn’t any special financing or cash rebates available, so you probably should lease or pay cash.

My Take: Question for the masses…Would you rather have an IS350 for $557 (assuming a $1000 under invoice sale price) a month for 48 months? OR would you rather have a C350 for $462 per month (assuming a $1000 under invoice sale price), also for 48 months? If your answer is C350, click here. Otherwise, if you want to go with the lower end IS250, this is not a bad car to lease right now. $400-ish will get you a IS250 that’s well equipped, just pay your inception fees upfront and you got it. OR you can always go with the Acura TSX which will probably come better equipped, for less.

08/09 Lexus IS Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: The IS is a very borderline “DO NOT LEASE” candidate right now. The residual values have tanked in the past 6 months, even on the 2009 models. It looks like LFS has tried to keep their residual values more realistic. This doesn’t bode well for us because cheap leases rely heavily on “inflated” residual values (more so than low money factors) to keep the payments low. I’m hoping Lexus keeps these residuals until February and drop the money factor significantly. That should save you a few grand in the long run. That 328i is looking mighty good right about now.

November 2008 Lease Rates for 08/09 Lexus ES and IS models

My Take: The rates for the 09 Lexus ES and IS look promising this month. I get the feeling that the days of leasing a $30k+ luxury car for $300s a month with just inception fees and taxes are over. After looking at Infiniti’s 09 G37s, I’m starting to think that the banks have decided not to inflate residual values too much. Good for them, bad for us. In any case, Lexus residual values could use a boost, but the money factors are pretty good. There is a $1000 cash rebate for current/former ES owners, so be sure to take advantage of that if you have/had an ES. FYI…invoice data isn’t available on the 09 IS and ES on Edmunds so you’ll have to guess as to what it is. I suspect it should be around $2000 or so under MSRP.

My Take: The numbers are up a bit from last month due to the drop in residual. The AWD model takes a 2% hit at 24 months and 3% hit at 36 months. The lease rates of .0008 that were post last month were actually lower from what I’ve seen around the web (.00055). Unfortunately, this month, they are up. So the lease got a bit expensive compared to last month. No word on the RWD model yet, but I will update this post if I come cross them.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Lexus IS250

My Take: Thus far, the leasing “crisis” this month hasn’t affected German and Japanese cars, which is great news for those looking to lease an import. The MF stays relatively low on the IS250, making it cheaper to lease. The thing about the IS250 I don’t like is that it is far too expensive and underpowered for the price tag. I am not saying this is bad car, on the contrary, this car is beautifully crafted and one of the smoothest rides on the road.

Notice how huge the gap is between the MSRP and the Invoice? Talk about overpriced. The good news is that the IS250 can probably be leased close to invoice (maybe few hundred above invoice), keeping the payments in the high $300s. Keep in mind you need to pay taxes, so you either pay that up front or your payments will be more in the low-$400s. Not too bad considering Acura’s 2009 TSX leases for around the same amount. Compared to the 328i or the C300, you’d be paying hundreds less going with the TSX or the IS250 this month.

First off, sorry for the delay, totally forgot to post this a few weeks ago. These rates may very well still be applicable since its the only the beginning of June. I’ll do my best to keep up in the future. I just got carried away this month since I was too busy cutting a deal on my own car 😛

My Take: The IS is a VERY nice car at all levels (Quality, fit, finish, style). The one flaw I can’t get over is the fact that their entry level IS250 is way underpowered for the price tag. Sure, performance isn’t everything, but at low 30ks, the car is pretty “bare”. If I had to pick between my base G37 and the base IS250…well, you already know what I picked so no point asking that question. 😛 The money factor is pretty low right now, but the residual for 36mo is pretty bad for a Lexus. I was expecting more in the high 50% range for a 12k mile lease. It is a Lexus after all. If had gone with Lexus at all, I would have opted for the IS350. Problem is, that car doesn’t lease too well. I think a G35/G37 similarly equipped would run a bit lower.
