09 Subaru Legacy Lease Rates – April 2009

logo_subbyMy Take: The Subby Legacy’s 36-month lease is supposed to be the best deal, but the residual value is too low while the money factor is still too high to make it a great deal. I would recommend skipping this lease for now. There isn’t much we can do about the residual, but I do think Subaru can do a better job with the money factor.

09 Subaru Legacy Lease Rates for January 2009

My Take: I haven’t posted a Subaru lease rate in a while so it is refreshing to see that Subaru’s actually lease alright this month. As you can see, the sweet spot for this vehicle is at 36-months, so make sure you don’t go beyond that (warranty won’t cover you past the 3rd year anyway so that’s certainly something to keep in mind). There’s about $1000 worth of dealer cash available so make sure to put your negotiating skills into action. The Legacy is going for $400 under invoice according to TMV, so I wouldn’t pay any more than that. There is also special financing available, but it breaks down to around the same as a lease (in terms of interest rate), so no point buying.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Subaru Legacy

My Take: Last rates I have for the month are for the Legacy. I actually like this sedan quite a bit. I was shopping around for it back in May of 07, but they had finished production on them and the dealer didn’t have any of them left.
Don’t let the low MF fool you though, the residual is real low here, not to mention the price tag on this car is relatively high (mid-$30k). This is an expensive lease, so avoid it. Subaru makes very good cars, but I’m surprised their estimated residual is so low. If they were a good 10% higher, this would make for a pretty good lease. Specially for folks in rainy and snowy states.
