The Wall: Mrs G’s 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg

Name: Mrs G
Location: California
What He’s Got: Black 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg
What It Cost: $0 drive-off, $358 a month with 9.75% CA sales tax. We came about $40 over the best TrueCar price, which was around $200 under invoice. Here was the lease rate for that month:

2010 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg
36-month | 15k miles | residual 55% | .00089 base money factor

We went with 12k miles per year, so the residual jumped to 57%.

I couldn’t find the contract so I don’t have the exact numbers. Will update this post if I come across it.

My Take: Overall, I thought it was a fair deal. Originally dealt with another dealer, but they kind of dropped the ball for being impatient so I went with someone else.  It was a good call since the process was painless. It took longer to find parking than it did to sign all the papers. The finance guy did try to pull a few fast ones, but the wife stuck to her guns and she came away exactly as she expected. No complaints.

  1. Very nice. Perfect timing to get the 2010 model. Looks like they ruined the new generation.

    • I haven’t seen the new Jetta yet, but I’m hearing the interior seems to have been downgraded. I’m also not sure how I like the exterior right now. I think I would have to see it in person before making any sort of judgement. I do like her Wolfsburg though. Its well-equipped; bluetooth, leatherette, media hub, 2.0T. It doesn’t have the fancier stuff on the GLI, but its comparable and costs thousands less.

  2. Nice purchase and great ride. I have a 2005.5 MKV and she has been good to me. Hope your wife enjoys the car.

    • thanks spinfunky. my wife loves the jetta. I like it as well. It’s really a nice car for the money. Few cars on the road cost that much, drive as well and comes that well equipped. I wouldn’t mind buying it out at lease end and mod it up. haahaa.

  3. Excellent choice. I’ve seen the new 2011 jetta on the road about a month ago (think it was being test driving by some exec or something). That car looked very generic to me, like a Kia Optima or something. Plus i hear they pretty much stripped out everything that made VW a slightly higher notch than the appliances out there (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc).

With that said…I would have also gone for the 2010 over the 2011. Nice choice. (too bad you couldn’t talk her into the MK6 GTI or Golf TDI 🙂 )

  4. Yeah I agree. I have mixed feelings about the new Jetta. The reports don’t seem great, but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until I go in for a test drive. We actually inquired about the GTI and the Golf TDI, but my wife required a 4-door car and the dealers were low on inventory at the time. It’s a shame because I really wanted her to get into the a TDI (Jetta or Golf) since her commute is long.
