2011-12 Hyundai Lease Rates – October 2011

The Hyundai Veloster is out and it’s lease rate doesn’t look terrible. Unfortunately, discounts off sticker are not significant, so the lease doesn’t look very good (See below to see what I mean). With this in mind, if you have been waiting to get your hands on the Veloster, I would probably wait a few months to see how things shake out. The car is far too new at the moment, so it’s place in the marketplace is still up in the air. Plus, there’s a Turbo model in the works, so you may want to hold out and test drive that ride before you make your final decision.

By the way, the $500 cash on the Sonata is still available. It does help make the lease more attractive, but it still lags behind the deals people were getting earlier this year.

2011-12 Hyundai Lease Rates – September 2011

Sonata lease rates are decent this month. There’s lease cash (loyalty) available as well on a nicely equipped Sonata SE Turbo (like mine) which is a bonus. The sale prices aren’t as low as back in the first half of the year, but they are still attractive because of the lease cash. Is this an awesome lease? No. But it’s not half bad.

If you aren’t an existing Hyundai customer, your payments will probably jump about $15-$20 bucks more per month. Still within the “GOOD DEAL” range.

Some of you may be wondering why I don’t talk about the Elantra’s promising lease numbers. That’s because you probably won’t see much in terms of discounts on the 2012 model right now. Unless you are able to pry $500 bucks or more out of the dealership’s hands, my guess is that deal won’t be as good as it could be. Of course, I’m not seeing the Civic being a great deal right now either, so you be the judge.

2011-12 Hyundai Lease Rates – August 2011

As the 2012 models start rolling out, I am thinking the 2011 are probably better deals. Just look at the 2012 residuals and money factors! Not very good. The Genesis is looking rather expensive. The 2012 Sonatas don’t look that great either (disappointing). The Elantra is okay, but not a lot of discounts to be had. It can be leased, but just barely (see below for sample calculation). It’s starting to look like the recent company success got to their heads and they are trying to capitalize on it. Can’t blame them, but I think the deals were better earlier in the year.

2011-12 Hyundai Lease Rates – July 2011

Looks like the 2012 Elantra is selling for “over sticker” price right now. No surprise there, the car has been selling quite well since it’s introduction, with very little discount (if any) from most dealers.  The 2012 Sonata numbers don’t look too bad either. I doubt you will get much of a discount since the car is so new. Nevertheless, great things happening at Hyundai. The car is well engineered and a pleasure to drive (after all, I have one). The company looks to be poised for increased sales in the coming years, which should translate to better lease/purchase incentives for us in the near future.

2011 Hyundai Lease Rates – June 2011

Here is what’s currently available from Hyundai. More numbers will come as I find them. You may scour Edmunds or Hyundai Forums for numbers if don’t see them here. Better yet, call your local dealer. I find that for “non-luxury” brands, there’s less mf-padding than with luxury brands such as BMW and Mercedes.

There’s been a lot of Sonata vs Optima debates lately, and I think they are both good cars. I opted for the Sonata because it was a better lease and also because the interior appealed to me more. The residual value is much higher on the Sonata and the money factor is also more attractive. There is a larger customer cash incentive on the Optima though, but in my opinion, it doesn’t offset the cost enough. The sale price seems to have gone up a little bit on the Sonata, but it is still a reasonable lease (89.2 RWG rating). Veterans and current Hyundai customers get an additional $500, while Students and Grads get $400. No lease cash is currently available.

Lease vs Buy. If you are planning to finance a purchase over 5 years, you may want to keep your cash and lease for the first 3 years (1.344 on a lease vs 2.9% on a buy) then maybe refi the remaining payoff (as long as the interest isn’t too high) or pay the entire payoff. If you manage this properly, you could actually save money over the typical purchase financing option.

Another thing worth noting, the Elatra Touring is no the all-new sedan. It’s actually a wagon which has an older design.

The Wall: G’s 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T

Name: G
Location: California
What He’s Got: 2011 Pacific Blue Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T
The Story:

The decision came down to the 2011 Honda CrossTour or the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Turbo. I was a bit torn because it was a battle between cost (the payments on the CrossTour were about $20 bucks more a month, $364 vs $384) versus practicality. I tried to get Pilot LX 4wd, but they were all sold out. And since the “boss” is a big fan of the Sonata, she pretty much made the final call.

The Deal:

$0 due at signing, $364 per month (with 9.75% tax). The final sale price was $25,893 plus $250 cash (which you have to pay taxes on, so technically only $200). MSRP $28175.  Money factor 0.0056 and residual 58%. The fees breakdown: $425 for dmv, $45 doc fee, $595 bank fee, $25 tax on cash plus other minor local/state fees. No other Hyundai dealer nearby would give me $2k+ below sticker (they wanted MSRP, LOL silly dealers). My preliminary calculations came out to be about $362 per month after taxes, with $0 due at signing. I estimated my drive-off fees to be about $1400. So I was within $2 dollars the dealer’s quote. Not bad considering that fact that I had him add all-weather floor mats which only bumped the payments a couple of bucks. Overall, a decent deal, but not as good as Joe02‘s lease of $311 for the same exact car. Part of the reason mine wasn’t as good was due to three factors: 1) higher sale price. 2) higher money factor. 3) lower residual value. My quoted price was about $50 bucks under the best TrueCar price at the time, but still higher than a few months ago.

Quick Review,  One Month Later…

After one month of driving the Sonata, I am pleasantly surprised as to how good the car is. The city MPG not as good as advertised (getting 19 vs 22), but I am still within my “break-in” period so things should improve down the road.

There are a few annoyances though…

Light steering – This isn’t even noticeable since 90% of my drive is city. Unfortunately, it is very noticeable when you drive through uneven pavement at high speeds, or when it’s windy. Never had that problem with the G-Coupe. Then again, the Coupe was about 400 pounds heavier.

Gas Pump – The gas pump nozzle clicks-off after a few seconds when pumping gas. Very annoying. Gas pumping needs to be done manually and tilted upwards in order to keep the flow continuous. Looks like some warranty work is in order.

Highway MPG as good as advertised. GPS works like a charm. Voice recognition could be better. Plastic paddle-shifters a bit cheap, but does the trick. Seats very comfortable. Solid mid-range power. Spacious trunk.

Final Verdict? It’s no sports car, but it will hold me over for the next three years.

2011 Hyundai Lease Rates – May 2011

UPDATE: Added Sonata SE Turbo and Elantra GLS. Sonata SE Turbo remains the same as last month. Elantra GLS should be an EXCELLENT lease , even without a big price discount. Check out the updated sample calculations section to get an idea as to how much the Elantra would could you.

Here are the latest numbers on the Sonata NA models. Looks like a minor drop in residual value, but still better than most cars. I noticed a slight drop in sale prices around my area in the last couple of days, which should help with the payments. The $250 customer cash should still be available. More numbers will be posted as they become available.

2011 Hyundai Lease Rates – April 2011

UPDATE: Added the Sonata SE & Limited Turbo rates. The residual dropped 1% but the MF remain the same as last month. The bad news is that the Sonata selling price seems to have gone up about $500 more this month compared to last month. Seems demand is going up. Its still early in the month though, so the prices to drop at the end of April.

Hyundai seems to have updated their residuals for April. Apparently, people like their cars, so the banks seems to think their resale value will improve (hence the slightly higher residuals). It’s kind of tough to argue against that logic since folks seem to be embracing Hyundai cars more and more each day (I’m one of them). Keep in mind this is only a partial list which will be updated as more lease rates become available. One car to take note of is the new Elantra. The bank has given it a VERY high residual (probably due to it’s gas sipping ways), but the sale prices are still relatively high (TrueCar indicates only about 2% off MSRP in SoCal region). Nevertheless, it is still a VERY good deal due to the low MF.
