09 Audi A4 Lease Rates – May 2009

logo_audiMy Take: Good leases coming out of Audi Financing Services this month. Just look at the money factors! NICE! With the exception of the S4, everything else looks pretty darn good. Residuals are a bit weaker than I’d like, but that also means they are a bit more realistic. The convertible’s MF really make it a great Lease-To-Buy candidate (sorry, but you will be hearing that Lease-To-Buy thing quite a bit from now on!). As far as the which model has the best residual/money factor balance on the A4 lineup, I would have to go with the A4 2.0T Cabriolet Quattro. Not sure I would buy it out at lease end, because I am skeptical of the ragtops ability to withstand time, but it certainly makes a solid lease if you factor in AudiCare and lower your mileage allowance to 12k per year.

  1. So now that you have posted about my 2 top convertible choices- the 128 and the A4- here is the question- shouldnt’t the value of the A4 be much lower considering its a discontinued model and the new model comes out in July? I feel I should be able to buy and or lease this car below invoice, but I am not seeing anything to support that theory. What am I missing

  2. actually, that isn’t 100% correct, as far as the new a4 cabrio coming out in July. Audi is dropping the A4 cabrio in favor of the A5 cabrio, which is due out in the fall. So technically speaking, the current A4 cabrio you see will be the last of it’s kind. Not that it makes any difference really. Now, my feeling is that the cabrios aren’t being discounted much because they are limited production vehicles. For example, my local Audi dealer has about 6 sedans for every cabrio. My recommendation would be to check in with your dealer every couple of weeks and see what kind of pricing they can do. OR you can always tell them the price you want and have them call you when they are ready to sell/lease it for that price. They have to move them to make way for the A5 cabrios anyway, so i think it’s just a matter of waiting it out. Then there IS the SLK if you don’t mind 2-seaters with super low money factors and very competitive pricing.

  3. Does the audi summer sale zero down no fees promotion make a difference in leasing deals or is it a business as usual smoke and mirrors play. Ther are a ton of sedans sitting on lots and the 2010’s aren’t far off.

  4. it don’t think it makes a difference. Fact is they will still use the same formula to calculate the payments and unless they are giving you some hefty discounts to offset the drive-off fees, business is going to be as usual. Truth is this, promotions are just that. They get you informed, excited and make you stop by the dealer or inquire. But when you crunch numbers, the formula is the same. You still need a sale price, money factor, residual and MSRP to calculate those payments. The fees are still there, but the manufacturer probably just offers rebates to customers to offset those fees. Not a bad time for an A4 if you ask me.

  5. G, I just got quoted $593/month for a 39 month/12K miles lease on a 2.0 T quattro premium plus, with nav, metallic pain, chrome tips. That’s with approx 3k down. They say they’re giving me $200 over cost for 38650 with MSRP approx 40850. Residual is 47% and MF is .00091. MD sales tax is 6%. THat comes out to $583/month which is close. Above though, the MF you show is .00071. Does the MF go up that much for 12K/months instead of 15K and adding nav? Can I work this dealer for a better deal? I only want to down about 2k and obviously the lower the monthly, the better. Tks man…you rock.

  6. Chris, the rates posted are base rates. That means the dealer may not offer go below that rate (unless there are multiple security deposits). Sometimes, banks will require that you put a security deposit in order to attain the base rate. other times that is only offered to those with fantastic credit scores. Now, keep one thing in mind, you are being quoted a 39month lease, not a 36month lease. The terms can sometimes change the residual/money factor significantly. Now, changing the mileage allowance does not change the money factor. It does, however, change the residual, which is another way of saving money. The best way to work this deal is to go lower on the sale price. So many cars right now are going for invoice or lower. No sense going $200 over invoice if you ask me. For every $200-$300 you knock off the sale price, you are saving around $10 bucks a month.Another thing is AudiCare will ad 1% to your residual value at a cost or about $650 (i believe) more. I think its worth it because maintenance on an Audi is not cheap. Lastly, if your state does not allow you to transfering registration from one car to another, I would not recommend doing a 39 month leases. You don’t want to pay for the 4th year’s registration and only use the car for 3 months. Here in CA, were we just got a license fee hike, it make NO SENSE to do a 39 month lease. So I’m pretty much regretting it right now. 😛

  7. G, would you say it’s a bit of a stretch to go below invoice on the all new A4 sedan during its first year run? How should you give the dealer your below invoice counter offer without sounding like a lowballer? The Audi dealer I spoke with said they can’t make any money on the deal if they sell the car at invoice.

  8. Depends on how much, what model and location. Here in So Cal, some readers have reported $1000-$2000 of invoice on the Prestige. Invoice is certainly possible and that would probably be the most I would ever pay on an A4 right now. I think anything below invoice for them is lowballing. One thing I do notice on the Audi’s is that the difference between MSRP and Invoice price is much lower than other brands. It’s only about 1-2k in most cases.

  9. I am trying to find a 2.0 A4 Quattro Prem Plus w/Navi and AudiCare. Any thoughts on getting it below $500/month with 36/12k? Am I crazy? Is the G37X a better deal right now? Thanks, G!

  10. Bashin, alright, here’s the deal. There’s no magic way to really bring down the payment below $500 unless one of two things happen. 1) You get a below invoice price OR 2) you put money towards cap cost reduction. And this is assuming you pay all inception fees at signing. 36mo / 12k with AudiCare plus 6% sales tax (estimated) will require that you sale price drop about $2000 below invoice or so. I wouldn’t say you are crazy, but I am not quite sure it’s realistic. $2000 below invoice I’ve seen on the Prestige, not so much on the Premium Plus. But hey, you don’t ask, you don’t know. LOL. As for a G37x with premium, navi and tech, you would have to go about $1500 below invoice in order to get it below $500 a month. I get the feeling that as long as there are 08s still around, $1500 below on 09 might be tricky. There is $1000 loyalty cash if you are a current infiniti customer though. I’m thinking invoice + rebate would be the closest you could get to getting a $500 a month payment + inceptions. What market are you in by the way?

  11. DC/NY/NJ should have solid competition, definitely try it out. Infiniti sometimes has Conquest cash available (usually around $500) so check with them as well. Personally, I think you will probably be in the low $500 rather than below it (after tax). In order to get the price you want on the Audi, you will need to go about $2000 below invoice and about $1500 in the G37x. Remember that inceptions would be due at signing, which should be around $1500 or so.

  12. G, thanks for the info before. Just to f/u…you definitely helped me out! I asked for a 36 month instead of 39. They got me down to $573/month for 12k with $2500 down (tax/tags).

  13. awesome chris! not only did you drop about $10 bucks monthly, you were also able to trim down the term (which usually results in higher payments), but you also cut the drive-off by $500! Nice. I bet there was a cool $1000+ savings there when compared to your previous offer. Well done Chris!

  14. This information has been so helpful. I just want to confirm that the A4 Cab is .00008 and not .0008. I apparently have difficulty counting zeros when comparing my numbers to the dealers. Thanks

  15. yup, it should be 4 zeros. A4 cabbies are being phased out because the a5 should be arriving with a cabbie soon. lease to buy folks….lease to buy. .00008 is almost an interest free loan.
