My Take: Ok I got kind of lazy so I didn’t want to list the X3, X5 and X6 individually, so here’s the complete list. Honestly, the X lineup is not my cup of tea since I don’t really enjoy driving SUVs much (size, parking, higher viewing clearance, etc…). I just like sitting lower and closer to the ground. It doesn’t surprise me to see the X3 holding better residual values than the other two (X5, X6). Everything seems to be dictated by gas prices and the X3 seems to consumes the least amount. I still think BMW needs better lease support to make them great lease deals. But this is BMW and they don’t really need to do much to move their cars.

My Take: Summer is here and BMW has dropped their MF and kept their residual values the same as in May for the Z4. That means you will be leasing this car will come out to be a bit less than last month (probably around $5-$10). Not much, but with every else going up in price around us, it’s better than nothing.

My Take: Looks like the M3s have a higher money factor than last month while the non-convertibles have become more “lease-friendly” with the introduction of a lower money factor. I still think BMWs in general are overpriced, despite th fact that they one of the best cars on the road. With the dollars being weaker and things around us getting more expensive each week, I personally can’t justify a BMW anymore. However, for those who can afford it, this is the Ultimate Driving Machine.

June 2008 Lease Rate for 08 BMW X3

36mo/12k – residual 65% – money factor .00240
36mo/12k – residual 64% – money factor .00240
36mo/15k – residual 62% – money factor .00240

My Take: The X3’s money factor dropped .00010 for the month of June while the residual remained the same. This mean you’re getting a slightly lower monthly payment this month than last month. Not exactly cause for celebration. I would anticipate the residual to drop some next month, which means BMWFS may have to readjust their MF once against to keep the truck reasonably priced.

May 2008 Lease Rate for 08 BMW X6

2008 BMW X6 xDrive35i Wagon
24 Month – Residual 62% of MSRP – .00258 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 51% of MSRP – .00258 Base Rate

** Rates provided by Tarry Shebesta from Leasecompare.com

My Take: No surprise here. The X6 is brand spanking new model that just came out this year. The residual is a poor guess attempt, while the lease rate is only good for folks pulling 6-figures (or more). I get the distinct feeling this car may not sell very well. It IS a wagon, no matter how you hard BMW tries to make it “sporty”. Last time wagons were popular was back in the 70-80s. I remember my mom’s “dream car” was a station wagon. Haahaa. Yeah, enough said.

** Rates provided by Tarry Shebesta from Leasecompare.com

My Take: The X5 is the gold standard (in my opinion) of crossover SUVs. An SUV that’s elegant, plush and drives like a car. Residual, for an SUV look pretty good. The rates are bit high, but this a BMW after all. Looks like the 4.8i leases a bit better than the 3.0 model, though.

My Take: You know, I never really liked the 7-series. I always found a lack of elegance in the design of the 7-series. In contrast, nothing says “I got money” like the S-class Benzo. Surprisingly, the 7-series has a better lease rate than the 6-series, but all that is offset by the icky residual. Recommendation is to buy it instead of leasing. You might get a pretty sweet deal out of it considering the fact that BMW will be redesigning the 7-series very shortly.

My Take: This car reminds me of the Mercedes Benz CLS, but in a coupe form. They both have a very organic-curved design and are price around the same price range. They are both very elegant, however, if I had to pick one of the other, I’d go with the CLS. As expected, the M6 has a higher money factor, but the higher residual value does help offset that somewhat. I have no experience leasing these things since I don’t have 70-80k or more laying around. If you can afford to even consider leasing this ride, you should be the type of person who can easily buy it.
