August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 BMW X5

My Take: X5 rates are down from July, while the residuals have remained steady. Good news for those of you looking to lease the X5. I’ll be examining the payments on both X5s since I suspect that they could be pretty close due to the 3.0si’s higher MF and lower residual.

  • X5 3.0si + Sport + Tech + Premium Packages
  • MSRP $56,175

  • Standard inception fees + tax

24mo Payment: $851 at invoice, $1049 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $770 at invoice, $905 at MSRP

You can shave another $30 a month off your 36mo payments by opting for the 12k mile term. Still a very expensive SUV. TMV suggests the price to be around 2k over invoice, which should bump your payments into the mid-$800 a month range after taxes.

  • X5 4.8i + Sport + Tech + Premium Packages
  • MSRP $63,775
  • Invoice $58,655
  • Standard inception fees + tax

24mo Payment: $892 at invoice, $1114 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $819 at invoice, $970 at MSRP

As I suspected, the price difference isn’t as much as expect. For about $40 more a month, I would go for the 4.8i over the 3.0si trims. That’s $1440 more over 3 yrs for a car that’s over $7,000 more. Sounds like the better deal to me.

August 2008 Lease Rates for 08 BMW 7-Series

My Take: The 7-series rates for August remain unchanged, so nothing to sing about. Then again, if you can afford the 7-series, do you really care? Maybe, maybe not. Anyway, I’ll be using the 750Li as an example for the estimated monthly payments.

36mo Payment: $1280 at invoice, $1532 at MSRP

Edmunds’ TMV suggests that the car can be leased at another $2000-$2800 under invoice. Some folks around the country have also reported at least 11k off MSRP on their leases. so it looks like payments can dip into $1272 for 24mo and $1196 for 36mo if you can go about $2800 under invoice. You can further cut that price by opting for the 12k or the 10k mileage allowances. Remember, if you are not a returning BMW customer, you may have to pay a security deposit to get the .00215 base rate.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 BMW X3

My Take: BMW has stepped up it’s leasing efforts this month by lowering the MF by .0004 to .002 while keeping the residual value the same as July. That spells god news for those who are looking to lease the X3.

  • 24mo Payment: $533 at invoice, $694 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $524 at invoice, $633 at MSRP

I was hoping for the payments to be more in the $400-$500 range, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. Still, the numbers are more attractive than last month ($30 less a month on the 36mo lease). Remember, you can opt for the 12k or the 10k mile leases to lower your monthly payment another $20-30. A security deposit may be required to get the low .002 money factor. It could be waived if you are a returning BMW lesse.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 BMW 5-Series

My Take: Looks like BMWFS improved the money factor for the 5-series. Not exactly a bad time to check out the 5-series right now. I actually like the 5-series a lot, almost as much as I like the E-Class. I just don’t have the money or the need to lease either of them. Again, 48+ month leases are bad because residual drops significantly and MFs jump up. Bad combination when it comes to leasing, not to mention more wear and tear costs. I’ll be taking a look at the 528 and the 535 sedan’s payments. R

36mo Payment: $655 at invoice, $775 at MSRP

Seems the 36mo lease is much better than the 24mo lease. You can lower your payments around $25 per month if you go from 15k to 12k or $38 by going to 10k on a 36mo lease.

    • 535i + Premium + Sport

36mo Payment: $704 at invoice, $835 at MSRP

With the price of the 528i and the 535i being off by about $50, I would opt for the 535i. Both cars are going for about $1000 over invoice according to Edmund’s TMV. Another thing to remember, you may be required to put a security deposit in order to lowest MF listed here. I believe they will waive that if you are a current BMW customer.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 BMW 3-Series

My Take: Good news is that the 3-series leases have improved somewhat, specially compared to the  1-series. Lets see how things look, shall we?

    • 328i + Premium + Sport
    • MSRP $38,575
    • Invoice $35,505
    • Standard inception fees + tax
    • Lease rate in BOLD

24mo Payment: $494 at invoice, $626 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $457 at invoice, $547 at MSRP

The payments are obviously higher than the 1-series. That is primarily due to the fact that the car is more expensive. It is a bigger car after all. The key here is that the 36mo lease is more attractive and the car could be had for a “close to invoice” price. So essentially, you could be in a 3-series for around the same price as the 1-series. More is better.

    • 335i + Premium + Sport
    • MSRP $44,575
    • Invoice $41,030
    • Standard inception fees + tax
    • Lease rate in BOLD

24mo Payment: $589 at invoice, $742 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $545 at invoice, $649 at MSRP

So what do you get for another $100 per month over the 328i? 300hp twin-turbo engine that is remarkably potent and fuel efficient. Couple of things to note is that the .00150 MF may require a security deposit if you are not a current BMW owner. For this kind of money the G35/G37 are probably the better bang for the buck.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 BMW 1-Series

My Take: There isn’t any lease support for the 1-series still. I’ve taken ou the 48mo and 60mo lease rates since you should NEVER lease for such a long time. The better lease right now would probably be the 128i since it has the higher residual and the lower price tag.

    • 128i + Premium + Sport
    • MSRP $34,425
    • Invoice $31,685
    • Standard inception fees + tax
    • Lease rate in BOLD

24mo Payment: $413 at invoice, $535 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $447 at invoice, $531 at MSRP

Surprisingly enough, 24mo leases are looking much better than the 36mo leases. Unfortunately, the 1-series does not lease for invoice, so expect your payments to be more on the high $400 to low $500.

    • 135i + Premium + Sport
    • MSRP $40,225
    • Invoice $37,030
    • Standard inception fees + tax
    • Lease rate in BOLD

24mo Payment: $561 at invoice, $703 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $564 at invoice, $661 at MSRP

Same thing over on the 135i model, the 24mo lease range is wider than the 36mo range. Don’t expect invoice on this one either. Seriously, these little go-karts are EXPENSIVE! May want to look into the 3-series if you are looking to lease, no sense in paying this kind of money for a car that offers so little in return.

BMW Offers 0.9% Financing on Almost All Models

BMW introduced 0.9% financing for almost every single car on their lineup (No M3). It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that leasing has suddenly become very unprofitable for manufacturers in the past few months. Manufacturers have begun introducing attractive financing terms to entice consumers to purchase instead of lease. Makes sense, 0.9% interest is much better than the 3.9% being charged to lease a 3-series. The question is, do you really want to OWN a BMW? Being a former BMW driver, I can say that I will always consider leasing a BMW, but NEVER want to own one. Owning a BMW is far too expensive, even for the “Ultimate Driving Machine”. If leasing becomes even less attractive in the forseeable future? I think I will be scratching BMWs off my “wanted” list.

Here is a complete list of BMWs that qualify for for 0.9% financing for up 60 months. Offer ends Sept. 2nd 2008.
