GM Employee Pricing For EVERYONE!

By now you have probably seen the commercials. This program ends Sept 2nd 30th.  It is a good time to buy a GM vehicle. They aren’t all crappy cars…REALLY! It’s like picking apples, we know apples can be good, just make sure you don’t pick one with a worm in it.  GM is serious about pushing sales right now (they must be hurting real bad this quarter) because they are having a clearance on EVERYTHING that’s a 2008 ! YUP! you can get a hefty 10k off MSRP on the Corvette, yes, even the Z06. Some 2009 models are included, like the Cobalt and the Caddy CTS, HRR and Vibe (Toyota Matrix’s American relative). Looks like they aren’t holding back this time.

Click here to see available models and how much they are being discounted.

This is probably one of those few times when I’ll be pitching an American car, so at least take the time to check it out. I don’t recommend all GMs obviously, but in that list, there are a few cars I would personally like to have in my garage. Here’s a short list…

  • Caddy CTS
  • Chevy Corvette
  • Pontiac G8 GT
  • Saturn Sky Red Line (which happens to have an additional $500 bucks back)
  • Pontiac Solstice GXP ($500 bucks back too on top of the employee discount)
  • GMC Acadia ($1500 cash back + employee pricing)
  • Chevy Malibu

There are more cars on my list, but I am tired of listing them since they are re-badged versions of these same cars.

Now the questions is, does employee pricing + cashback work with leases? That I don’t know. Maybe a dealer might be kind enough to share some of that insight?

August 2008 Lease Rates for 08 Cadillac CTS, Subaru WRX STi, GMC Acadia and Porsche Boxster

My Take: Here are some other “bleh” leases going on this month. We have a Caddy CTS (nice car, but I fear the reliability), WRX STi (AWD rice rocket, with wings), Acadia (happens to get as much MPG as my G37. Shocking, I know) and the Porsche Boxter (or Porkster as some would call it). I don’t think there’s much of demand for these cars right now, so if you want to see some numbers, just leave a comment and I’ll punch in some numbers. Better yet, you can use the lease calculator and punch in your own numbers and comment on your discoveries! Then I’ll comment on them! YEY, that would be nice! Haahaa.

* Residuals posted are for 15K miles/year. Add 2% to Residual for 12k mi/yr and 3% for 10k mi/yr on all terms
** Rates provided by Tarry Shebesta from Leasecompare.com

My Take: Looks like Caddy inflated the residuals for the STS and kept the MF relatively decent. Ugh…I really can’t say too much about this car. It’s like a boat with wheels, probably drives like one too. Life. Liberty. and the Pursuit….of what? The only Caddy worth it’s metal and rubber is the CTS. That’s about it. Looks like Caddy will be doing some “pursuing” for a while. I’ll take an E-Class any day over the STS…Any given day.

July 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Cadillac Escalade

2008 Cadillac Escalade 2WD
24 Month – Residual 66% of MSRP – .00256 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 56% of MSRP – .00256 Base Rate
48 Month – Residual 48% of MSRP – .00256 Base Rate

2008 Cadillac Escalade ESV 2WD
24 Month – Residual 66% of MSRP – .00256 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 56% of MSRP – .00256 Base Rate
48 Month – Residual 48% of MSRP – .00256 Base Rate

* Residuals posted are for 15K miles/year. Add 2% to Residual for 12k mi/yr and 3% for 10k mi/yr on all terms
** Rates provided by Tarry Shebesta from Leasecompare.com

My Take: Earlier (on the Cayenne post) I recommended this over a Porsche (the world is gonna end!). I do want to point out that it was ONLY from a financial stand point. Porsche’s are like hot women, you only kick them out of bead for the right reasons. The Cayenne’s MF only a tad higher than the Escalade’s, but the residual is over 6% lower in every term. That’s a lot of pocket change right there! The downside is that these Escalades are 2WD and the Cayenna comes in AWD, but that only matters if you live in cities with extreme weather conditions.

July 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Cadillac CTS

2008 Cadillac CTS
24 Month – Residual 69% of MSRP – .00254 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 59% of MSRP – .00254 Base Rate
48 Month – Residual 50% of MSRP – .00254 Base Rate

* Residuals posted are for 15K miles/year. Add 2% to Residual for 12k mi/yr and 3% for 10k mi/yr on all terms
** Rates provided by Tarry Shebesta from Leasecompare.com

My Take: If the MF wasn’t so high on the CTS, I would have probably leased one instead of my G37. GM typically doesn’t introduce low MFs for leases unless they have having difficulty moving those cars. That isn’t the case with the CTS so you may be better off buying the car since GMAC is offering low apr financing on the CTS. (0% for 36mo, 2.9% for 48mo, 3.9% for 60mo).

May 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Cadillac Escalade

36mo/12k – residual 58% – money factor 0.00256
36mo/15k – residual 56% – money factor 0.00256

* $850 lease cash.
** $1,000 if you are current GM customer.
*** Rebates are stackable.

My Take: 6.15% lease rate is good enough to deter me from anything that comes out of GM, even with the cash incentives. The Escalade is the ultimate pimp mobile of the 21st century.  If you dig that, then this is the ride for you. I, on the other hand, don’t want or need a full-size SUV of this magnitude. Plus, I don’t have the income to keep up with this ride’s thirst for gasoline.

The General loses $3.3 BILLION in First-Quarter

I don’t really know how to react to this bit news today. Part of me feels like this is a classic story of Retribution, while the other feels sorry for the good blue-collar folks that might be losing their jobs because GM execs are complete retards. Retribution because of all the garbage, we as consumers, have purchased in the last few decades with our hard-earned money. The excessive rebadging, the sea of cheap interior plastic, poor MPG and substandard designs on all their line up has essentially caught up with GM. It’s not to say they aren’t trying, but I feel that damage has been done and recovering from it is going to take a long of time.

I am not be a GM executive nor do I play one on this blog, but I can tell one thing I do know: I’m consumer and I haven’t been very crazy about their line up for some time. As a matter of fact, outside of the Corvette (which still suffers from poor interior design) and maybe the Australian G8, I don’ really like any of their cars. Less Americans buying American, now THAT’S an American Revolution folks!

Here is the complete story from The Los Angeles Times

How can GM fix this? Lets start with better lease rates!!! Such horrible lease programs tell me one thing; you don’t even want your cars back, so why would I want to even buy it? Build better cars, cut back on rental fleet sales to improve residuals (yup, I don’t want the same car next to me be a rental from Enterprise). Then work on more innovative design and alternative fuel vehicles. They’ve made strides with Saturn, Cadillac and maybe even GMC but there is plenty of room for improvement.
