September 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Lexus IS-F

My Take: Bad residual (54%) and bad MF (.00255), factor in the high price tag of the IS-F and things start to go downhill from there. Since this is a rather “low-volume” car, I highly doubt it will ever be a good lease. So here are the numbers in case you got the cash to burn.

September 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Lexus IS250

My Take: The numbers are up a bit from last month due to the drop in residual. The AWD model takes a 2% hit at 24 months and 3% hit at 36 months. The lease rates of .0008 that were post last month were actually lower from what I’ve seen around the web (.00055). Unfortunately, this month, they are up. So the lease got a bit expensive compared to last month. No word on the RWD model yet, but I will update this post if I come cross them.

September 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Lexus IS 350

My Take: The IS350’s lease rate is quite low this month. Compared to July, the residual only dropped 1%, while the MF dropped from .00245 to .00090. A pretty good deal if you ask me. Are there better alternatives? Certainly, but if you are fixated on an IS350, this isn’t a bad month to take one home. TMV suggests $37,557, about $1300 over invoice. I suspect you can do better.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Lexus ES350

My Take: There is a $1000 cash rebate available for current customers on the ES350, in addition to a reduced money factor. The residual stays the same, making this lease cheaper than last month.

  • ES350 + Premium Plus + Navi
  • MSRP $39,075 ($40,075 – $1000)
  • Invoice $34,366 ($35,366 – $1000)
  • Standard inception fees + tax not included

2008 Lexus ES350 Sedan
24 Month – Residual 57% of MSRP – .00065 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 50% of MSRP – .00065 Base Rate

24mo Payment: $517 at invoice, $717 at MSRP
36mo Payment: $433 at invoice, $567 at MSRP

Check out last month’s numbers:

24 month payments: $574 at invoice, $775 at MSRP
36 month payments: $476 at invoice, $611 at MSRP

That’s about $40+ less per month on the 24mo and 36 mo leases compared to July. Obviously, the $1000 rebate is what’s helping drive the payments down. Even without it, you should see some savings ($15 less on a 36mo lease). So what does Edmund’s TMV say? They say that the ES350 goes for about $36,366, which is about $1k over invoice. So I think best case scenario is $1000 over invoice, minus the $1000 loyalty case (if you are a current customer) and you get invoice, which on a 36mo/15k lease it’s approximately $462. Knock it down to a 12k mile lease and you’re looking at $440 a month.

August 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Lexus IS250

My Take: Thus far, the leasing “crisis” this month hasn’t affected German and Japanese cars, which is great news for those looking to lease an import. The MF stays relatively low on the IS250, making it cheaper to lease. The thing about the IS250 I don’t like is that it is far too expensive and underpowered for the price tag. I am not saying this is bad car, on the contrary, this car is beautifully crafted and one of the smoothest rides on the road.

  • IS250 RWD Auto + Luxury Plus + X Package
  • MSRP $38569
  • Invoice $33581
  • Standard inception fees + tax
  • Lease rate in BOLD

36mo Payment: $373 at invoice, $515 at MSRP

Notice how huge the gap is between the MSRP and the Invoice? Talk about overpriced. The good news is that the IS250 can probably be leased close to invoice (maybe few hundred above invoice), keeping the payments in the high $300s. Keep in mind you need to pay taxes, so you either pay that up front or your payments will be more in the low-$400s. Not too bad considering Acura’s 2009 TSX leases for around the same amount. Compared to the 328i or the C300, you’d be paying hundreds less going with the TSX or the IS250 this month.

July 2008 Lease Rate for 08 Lexus ES350

My Take: The ES350 has some low MF’s for July. The Residual is fairly low though, so any savings you may have gotten from the low MF is pretty much offset by depreciation. Lets take a ES350 (with Premium Plus & Navi) and see how the numbers look:

  • MSRP $40,075
  • Invoice $35,366
  • Standard Inception Fees
  • Using terms in bold for ES350 sedan, see below.

24 month payments: $574 at invoice, $775 at MSRP
36 month payments: $476 at invoice, $611 at MSRP

The more expensive the car, the bigger the range. Clearly, the 36mo terms are better on the ES350. Just be careful if you decide to go with the ES350, there many options on this car and fairly expensive ones, so payments can get out of control very quickly.

My Take: I remember the days when the GS first came out. It was an attractive sedan, sporty and luxurious. Over time, it’s popularity shifted over to the IS and the GS became the “forgotten” sedan. Not so many of them on the road anymore, compared to the IS (they are freaking everywhere). With poor residual value and high MF. It’s popularity will probably stay the same for a few more years.

My Take: The MF is not too bad, but it seems to be the Infiniti EX35 is a better deal right now. The RX350 has been one of the most popular crossovers (if not the most) for quite some time. It’s magnificently egg-shaped styling allows plenty of cargo space and luxury that is unparalleled. With that said, I don’t think I’d ever get one, not very fond of it the “egg-shaped” styling even though it’s functional.
