logo_benz My Take: Quick hits here…CL, pass. CLK, solid “lease-to-buy” since it has very low money factors. CLS, skip the AMG model. In all honesty, the CLK is probably the only model I would consider of the three. The 24-month term shouldn’t be considered at all, so stick to the 36-month or 48-month terms. Like most “higher-end” Merc models, you end up paying for most of the depreciation within 4 years, making it a good option to buy if the money factors stay relatively low.

What He’s Got: Everything but wood grain and Navi.
What It Cost: 2 payments left on my old lease and about 5,000 miles over my allotted 10,000 per year ($1250). Paid $3000 after everything at drive off (that includes my first month’s payment) and am paying $455 a month for 39 months at 10,000 miles a year. I believe sticker was $52950 but i’m not positive as to what it came out to when all was said and done.

My Take:PHAT RIDE! Love it! Mercs do look best in black so you definitely didn’t go wrong there. The deal in my opinion was very good considering the following… 1) You were over your miles and had a couple payments left. 2) Of the $3000 up front that you paid, more than HALF was going towards inception, meaning your cap reduction was probably no more than $1k. At $455, that’s about the same as what some folks are paying for 2.0T A4s and 328i…but you got a CLK350 at a MSRP of $52k. Congrats! Great ride, great deal. Thank you VERY MUCH for sharing. Wow, the first Merc on the Wall!

logo_benz My Take: Lately I’ve been thinking about the whole lease-to-buy scenario and I have come to believe that certain cars simply should not be bought at the end of the lease. The reason I mention this is because a lot of the cars have dropped in residual value over the past year. If you are considering buying your lease, you may want to look for cars that have a low residual value and a ultra-low money factor. That way, you ensure all the money you pay on your monthly lease payments is going towards paying off the depreciation rather than the interest. That way, when the lease ends, there is very little residual value left on the car and you can pretty much cut them a nice check for the remainder and keep the car. Anyway, the reason I bring this up on a Mercedes Benz post is because Mercs seem to have really lame residual values and really low money factors. Check this out, the CLK550 depreciates 64% and they only charge about 0.192% APR for 48 months (plus you get $6000 dealer cash). Seriously, you think you can secure a loan that cheap if get a purchasing loan? I don’t think so, the lowest APR going on right now for the CLK550 is 0.9% up to 66 months. Granted, that’s still a pretty sweet deal, I’d would still take 0.192% on the lease because unlike buying, there’s always an easy way out after a few year in case the car is giving you some problems. Anyway, something to think about if you are shopping for a Merc. Watch the numbers and figure out what you want to do at least end before you make your final decision.

My Take: The CLK350 Coupe looks best on a 48-month lease. It still pricey since the residuals are so low, but the money factor is great. The convertible is better as a 36-month lease. I would avoid the CLK550s.
Can’t say I recommend them as lease, I would probably buy it since these cars lose more than 50% of their value within 3 years.

MY TAKE: Here are the remaining Mercedes-Benz Lease Rates that I don’t recommend. Clearly, you can see why. The residual values are either terrible or the money factor is sky high. Then, you have a combination of both crap residuals and crap money factors. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you why I don’t recommended the following cars. Keep in mind that these recommendations do not reflect my personal feelings towards these rides. I won’t say no to a C63 AMG or a SLK55 AMG. All I am saying is that if you plan on getting into any of these rides, buy them, don’t lease them.

09 Mercedez-Benz Lease Rates for December 2008

My Take: You probably want to stick with the C, CLK, CLS, E (MAYBE), GL and ML classes this month. Everything else seems like it will cost you far more than you should be paying. The models previously mentioned enjoy a fairly low money factor and a decent residual value. You probably want to opt for the 12k mile leases and maybe extend the lease to 48 month. Unlike BMW, Mercedes Benz seem to lease better in the 36-month and 48-month terms. With Warranty covering up to 48 months, you should be taken cared of in case something happens to your Benzo. Now the question is, do you really want to drive the same car 4 straight years? Personally, I have leased both 36-month and 48-month leases and I find that 48 month leases just a tad “too long”. In 4 years, I tend to find way too many flaws in one car and I end up not enjoying the latter part of my lease. Of course, it if works out in the budget, 48 month isn’t too bad, just keep your miles low (lower than your contracted allowance) and you can probably end your lease in advance by trading it in, you might even get some money back.

My Take: Slim pickings here for Mercedes-Benz. Of the entire line up, the following four rides seem to have resonable money factors and residual values (actually, all C300s have the same rates, so you can go with either the sport, sport 4matic, lux or lux 4matic). You should be able to get a pretty nice discount on these rides though, so that should make up for it. Invoice or less is what I would personally shoot for. Keep in mind that a 48-month lease may yield lower monthly payments, so that is always an option. Remember, in our current economic environment, they need you more than you need them. My Take: Rest of the MB line-up looks pretty bad. There is some lease support on the CLK350, but that’s about it. The rest of lineup boasts really low residual values and higher than average money factors.
